This is my rant so please take cover.

I got broken in to yesterday. its taken the gits 3 practice runs this year and they have finaly managed it. The nice police man came round gave me the crime referance number so i can claim from my insurance for the stuff thats been pinched ( no bikes gone but back window only borded up so they could just come back today to get it.) Ploice have no leads and are going to at most call me in 14 days to say they have found nothing.

3 attempted breakins and 0 police presance in my area... last week 3 houses down a breakin.... and still no police presance on the street. Some cars parking on the pavement on the weekend and we get a copper down the road with a ticket. Why can police only do anything if its got a licance plate on it or is drunk and fighting outside a night club?

The advice i have been given is to fit bars to my windows and door. ( i thought the criminals got to live in a prson not me.) Or have my alarm on ...( my house mate was in the house at the time.) or lock my windows.... the window was locked but they smashed it to get in and out.... or Move. I have cctv locked gates to stop them getting round the back and security lights. curtains up to stop people looking in and still they get in.

Im in 1/2 a mind to write to my local MP to ask for a refund for some of my large councel tax bill to cover my costs. 10 weeks with out bin collection. 5 times a victim of crime this year and nothing done by the police im sick of this its disgusting all i get from the bloody govement is a dopy sounding woman from victim support calling to see how i feel and then saying she cant do anything for me but chat... I dont want a chat i want criminals arrested and put in jail. ( then to be repeatedly raped by a fat man called buba if kama was watching my last year)
There is nothing to stop people stealing and robbing as there is no effective deterant even in the unlikley even your are arrested for a breakin you are only going to get comunity service. ( where you will be struck by lightning and given super powers  )

rant over thank you for putting up with it but i needed to vent this year has been crap.

so you expect a police man for your own house?

given they work shift- that would need say 4 officers minimum to cover your house 24//7 say at £30,000 wages plus the other costs of employment inc pension - that-s going to be around £200,000 per annum

Now where is that going to come from?

hes not talking about a 24hr personal guard. just be nice to see the odd bobby now and again. full sympathy. it must be the most disruptive crime. seems all too common. ive got an idea for costs etc, the victim usually ends up paying financially, if they catch anyone why not have them pay any expense and lost goods back to the owner. i think thats fair. its more deterant than saying youve been a naughty boy.

No what i expect its not to have scrotes breaking in to my house ( or trying to) every 2 months. Is that realy unreasonable?
The police have done nothing effective to stop it. When they turn up to hand out the crime ref number they blame me for the break in as i did not have the alarm on when my housemate is in the house and that i dont have bars on my doors.

So thanks to lack of affect from my local police im now landed with another repair bill and costs of adding more security so i dont have a wife terrified to stay in the house on her own. Now where are the costs for that going to come from ?

Im a bit more down with the arab criminal system... you steal once you lose a hand.. do it a second time you lose the other hand.... you cant steal a 3rd time

Nice rant there, totally understandable frustration. I wonder if the Police have targets for cutting down burglaries, as I guess then they would be a priority to be dealt with, rather than the police input just giving you the crime number so you can claim if you have insurance.
The other possibility is that burglaries are hard to get a conviction for so they are not deemed a priority in this crap age of "value for money" (as a byword for not making the effort). I do know that they are stretched, but local authorities can always find enough police for a demo.
    Crap all round.
    My sympathies.

  • where do you live?? sounds horrible.

Mate of mine got done and came downstairs to find the noise was the tosser fighting his very big dog and losing! there were 2 of them and the other had legged it. called the police they took an hour to arrive even though when he called he told them the guy was still in his house.

Then he got all sorts of hassle about the dog. unbelievable.

Sorry to hear that, i know exactly how you feel, our village got 'raided' a few months back, must have been a bus load of them as we had 2 4x4's pinched,2 quad bikes,a horse box, tools from different farms about 100 gallons of red diesel and they even broke into my parents garage and stole the food from the freezer, the cheaky b@stards even left the ice lolly wrappers on the floor. As for the police all they could do was take a few finger prints and we've heard no more,it makes my blood boil when you work your ass off to give your family a roof over there head and buy the things they need then scum bags come along and take it for nothing. I just pray to god i don't ever catch them at it, because i really don't think i could keep my shot gun in its cabinet. sorry bikerbaboon just had to have a rant as well

I feel your pain. My sister was burgled a few years ago and they completely cleaned her out. Upset her so much she couldn't live there anymore and it wasn't even in a bad area. (not that burglaries usually are). It's a problem definately, and what alarms me more than anything is the crime sheet of the burglars once they get caught. Some of them read like Who's Who and it seems they have to commit many crimes before they are finally banged up. It's like burglary is seen as this not so serious crime or something. I also have a few friends in the force and they are frustrated as the rest of us.

And aren't the police under pressure at the moment to make even more cuts?

That kind of rural farm-crime seems to be highly organized!
  • It's a volume crime so it's never going to get a huge response from the Police. It's frustrating but is it not better that, in a world with limited resources, the police are playing a greater role in serious crimes?

Sorry to hear about it though. Hope it gets sorted with limited hassle!
  • Whether the police can do anything or not comes down to evidence - basically if they cannot find fingerprints or possible DNA, have no CCTV or witnesses, then they will have no suspects. No suspects = filing of the crime. The trouble is that burlgars have become good at leaving no evidence behind, and IF they are ever caught, then any sentence they receive is purely abismal! Why bother to change your ways if you only ever spend three months in jail??

And now for my own little rant... there was a spate of burlargies in my area in the last two weeks, and the local police's way of addressing this was to leave an empty Police Astra on the junction of the local crossroads at night time, so people will 'think' the area is being watched!!! Dropped off by an officer each night at 11.30pm, and left into the early hours... i have yet to see said vehicle make an arrest... Wonder if any newspapers would be interested though??

It would be funny if someone nicked their Astra

Ah you see that's cos it was a SOCO, not a CSI.

Our force changed the name from SOCO to CSI not long after the programme got big. coincidence????

@ Giant john, I'm sure there will be suspects, just no evidence to present.

I do worry that the two things are linked. but theres still plenty of scrotes out there that don't won't or can't prevent leaving forensic evidence either by lack of care for the consequences, drug addled or they'd look completely out of context and would be reported (hopefully) before they got close - I worked a case where the armed gangs were going in in full wetsuit and facemasks to avoid leaving traces, they doused the cars used in acid before setting them alight afterwards. but they were experienced criminals who had been through the system a few times and had learned what it was that was linking them to offences.

I'm never sure if t's a testament to stupidity or weak sentances that we get repeat fingerprint and DNA hits on people.

back to the topic tho OP - in the first instance I'd get onto to your loal superintendant and ask what the patrol priorities are and why - express your concern and ask for a direct answer as to what they are doing to improve crime prevention and reduce repeat victims. Iif not satisfied get onto the Police Authority they have regular meetings with the top brass and are in effect the board of governors for the cops.

    How deaf is your housemate?
  • The thing is, even if the police could be arsed to try and catch the crims and even more miraculously succeed, the judiciary do naff all, leading to anger all around. Apart from on the crims behalf though.

The only thing that stops people committing crime is fear of the consequences, The consequences need to be severe and frequently applied , by somebody or other.
