Ive got a bit of a dilema on my hands and was after the help of fellow stw'ers to help me solve it............
basically i bought a spesh enduro about 3 months ago after getting fed up of getting beat up on my inbred.
the spesh is a 2006 enduro pro so was quite a bit of cash when new,
ive spent about 200 quid on it buying new drivetrain, wheels etc and got it running nice.
however its a pig of a thing to drag around, quite heavy but feels indestructable if you know what i mean.
so put the feelers out to see if anyone want to swap for a stumpy and one has come up.
its a 06 stumpy comp so its not as well speeced as mine but looks to be a nice bike(needs shock bush doing and a full rebuild on the front disc brake though, oh and new tyres!)
me and the lad done the swap this morning and so far it looks a nice bike(the frame finish is in better nick than my enduro)
the trouble is ive got a horrible feeling im making a mistake.
sure the enduro is heavy but it gives me so much confidnce to tackle all sorts of riding, im just worried the stumpy might not be as forgiving.
if it makes a difference to your answer im 18.5 stone and tend to be a bit hard on kit!!
I havent rode the stumpy yet so i might be plesently suprised ................
what do you think?
cheers

Those lower shock bushes on '06 SJ's will fail and fail. There's and aftermarket fix for it using a steel bush. Skyline cycles (based at Afan) used to sell them, and I think one of their guys very occasionally posts on here by the name of Skylinner.
Personally.....
On just value, I think you've lost out there at little. The Endruo Pro was 2800(I think) new and the SJ Comp was about a grand less.... But that, and the spec difference aside I personally don't think a SJ or an Endruo is a better bike than the other ether way. One's a better climber and ones a better descender.
I love my '06 Endruo, I have it from new and every year I think about changing it and I haven't found another bike I like enough to pay more money (although the 2010 Lapeiare Spicy and 2010 Cove G-Sport are getting a lot of love at the moment). I they're not great climbers, they're not even good climbers, but they'll get there in the end and the way it covers rough ground with a bit of gravity is un-holy.
But unless you can visit places to get that sort of gravity they've a bit too soft and heavy for most stuff.
If you don’t want to, or can't swap back, you'll enjoy the SJ they great bikes. If you do change back, like me your more than the average 12st, get the DHX serviced and ‘tuned’ by Mojo, they worked wonders with mine. Loads less bob climbing and noticeably smoother on the way down.0 -
ah thanks for that.
i should point out mines an 06 frame fitted with the 05 5th element shock!!0
