I am considering a garmin 705. A number of people have said that you really need to get either free or paid for maps as extra add ons to get the best out of this unit. I have Garmin nuvi Satnav and I think I already downloaded the citynavigator europe maps - does anyone know if these will be usable on the 705? they came as a free download with the satnav.MTB

Can someone please explain the diference between a "course" and a "route"
A route is a set of waypoints. The machine navs from waypoint to waypoint and depending on spec/settings, may say 'turn coming up' or ' n metres/time to blah blah'.
A course is a line you follow on the screen. You usually don't get any commentry as per route above.
Unfortunately the terminilogy really doesn't help here. If you think of route as a set of points that you nav from/to and a course as a breadcrumb trail that is followed, you won't go far wrong.0 -

The navigation features on the 605/705 are fantastic. Ever wanted a new cycling route that explores some of the small roads and lanes near where you live? Plot the route on Bikely.com, load it into the Garmin and let it direct you round. It's so easy and means I get to train on different roads all the time instead of sticking to the roads that I know.0
