  • Give it a chance, I'd say. Running an open wireless network doesn't appear to be all that expensive and is a definite plus for visitors whether they're there for pleasure or business. We have an OWN network here in Deptford/Greenwich - it's free to use (not the fastest, admittedly) though you can buy a router from them pretty cheaply and become a contributing member to the network or, alternatively, you can pay £50 or so for a year's subscription.

    This network does not appear to be funded by any central or local authority (at least I haven't found any ''sponsorship'' logos on their site) and it works. A godsend for me when those inevitable ISP hiccups occur.

    I just wondered how a service funded by advertising would cope with ad-blocking softwear. Where would the income be comming from?

    Maybe they assume that not everybody runs ABP+ :wink:
