Hot Tub as recovery aid

Right here we go, i need some help
I fancy getting myself a hot tub so that after a training ride i can hop in and unwind with the aid of heat and bubble massage (farting in the bath does NOT have the same effect).
Has any one else got one and do they find it works?
When i go to the Gym i normally use the one there after a workout and find im less affected by DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) so i think if i have one at home i could train harder and not suffer, only downside i can see is i will go through more beer as all my mates will come round and use it to.
My wife is in agreement as she just wants one for the social side of sitting in it drinking wine with her Bikini clad mates to
I think i just convinced myself with the last statement as some of her mates are right MILFs
lol
opinion please

I don't want to p*ss on your cornflakes, but isn't cold water / ice baths the accepted way to reduce / prevent DOMS? Pro teams and other sportsmen use ice baths, not hot tubs.
If you want to get one for the other reasons mentioned that's fair enough, but don't tart it up as a "training aid" FFS!0 -
yes i know they use ice etc but i was meaning the massage side of it to reduce the effect of a hard training ride as they also have a massage to help, i know its not a specific sports massage but it seems to help aftera gym workout.
i can buy one if i want but i would rather it was of benefit rather than a luxurydont only ride a bike0 -

...that may result in muscle stimulation, rather than muscle relaxation. Bonus! IMHO
<EDIT> It may not always work as you envisage...

You'll get far more benefit from ice treatment than a hot tub, and aren't they a bit......chav....?

Yeah, warm bubbly water is almost exactly the same as a sports massage. :roll:Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur0 -
Invite the Mrs and her mates to the bathroom to give you a massage - sorted!

Generally they use both, jumping from one to the other, 5 mins of one, 5 mins of the other.
Hot water stimulates blood flow, increasing the muscle repair rate (as increased blood flow brings increased help), whilst cold water prevents free radicals from casuing extra muscle damage post exercise. I think the theory is if you do both for a short period of time, you get the best of both worlds without the downsides.
Also hot tub- if you have kids, do you really want your teenager daughter having a hot tub at home to invite people round to use?"I hold it true, what'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost;
Than never to have loved at all."

What nolf said.
Alternating hot/cold stimulates blood flow because the cold water makes your muscles contract, forcing blood out of them somewhat and the hot water relaxes them, allowing blood to flow into them easier.0 -
Oh yeah, great idea... I am about to buy a new house and it has room for a hot tub - great idea!0

just had a look on ebay... about £3000 for some of them, so might have to stick to the bath for now0

As said before a bit chav tastic, unless you have the property to go with (which you probably have), the house above us has one and although it's an expensive property I think it makes the place look a bit chavolitic, hence I've planted 26 eucalyptus trees to screen the blinkin thing :roll:
Saying that they used it about 10 times in the first year they had it and once this entire year!
Personally I would invest in a couple of sports massages a month0 -

You also have to consider that the ice/warm bath technique doesn't work for everyone however (for some unexplainable reason)."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"
