Anyone know where you can get the City Navigator maps on DVD for a decent price?
£82 from Garmin seems fairly steep!
Also, when buying a blank micro SD card, is there anything I need to be aware of???
Cheers.

Not sure where the best place to get the DVD is, but as far as the Micro SD card is concerned, 2Gb is enough. The whole thing is literally folder with two files in it, one a .img file which is the mapping and the other a .unl which I think is the licence key. Unless you have the latest firmware, the 705 won't accept bigger than 2Gb cards.
Have you looked up the opensource mapping? It's free but not all roads are on it. Perhaps worth a look if you are on budget or at least as a stop gap until you find good deal on the Garmin mapping.0 -
Thanks GAVH - that's the sort of info I needed. Is this the sort of card I need: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-SEALED-2GB-MICROSD-MEMORY-CARDS_W0QQitemZ190357687187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PDAsAccessories_MemoryCards?hash=item2c5233cb93?0

Yep, that'll do you fine.
Google opensource maps and download one of the files that suits your needs. Once you've downloaded it, open a folder in your 2Gb card and call it GARMIN, then drop a file called (or renamed to) GMAPSUPP.img into said folder and insert card into 705. That simple.0 -

gavh, great advice
been playing with the idea of buying a cheap sat nav from somewhere like ebuyer and getting bike friendly maps onto it, any suggestions, is this possible?0 -
Don't see why not. If all you want is turn by turn nav then any GPS that can have a route installed onto it should do. Before I got the 705 I used a Foretrex 101 strapped to my bars to highlight the junctions I needed to turn at.
Have a look here for more info on the Opensource maps and what devices work with what. Not exhaustive by any means but a start:
