Here is my new Merida Mission 500D (year 2009) , I changed few parts from stock version..

Does anybody have a geometry documentation of this bike? I can't find it on web and Merida customer service is very very inpolite.. I've sent them email with several question like what is eye to eye and stroke length of rear shock, what is the length of rear suspension travel and thay don't want to make an effort and give me correct answers..

hehe, the reflectors will stay on.. I'm not very bothered with them visually, and I don't race so weight is not nearly an issue for me.. :)

P.S. my old bike also came with reflectors on wheels and they stayed on it for 4 years :D

Be careful with that lizard skin shock boot, they can do more harm than good.

Other than that, nice bike, can't think of where merida got their inspiration from

    Nice upgrades.

in which way can lizard skin make harm to the shock? maybe when it gets dirty?

I hope that there will be some more upgrades soon, first thing I want to change is brakes, I had on my old bike shimano 525 brakes and they were much better than this hayes ride .. much better feeling on the lever, and thay didn't make so laud irritating noises on rain.. I'm very disapointed with hayes ride..
then I wan't to change crankset to deore or slx hallowtech II ..
and then maybe new set of wheels, but only if I get some bargin..

here are some other brands that have shock position similar as specialized..

Well, as soon as it gets wet, it holds onto all the little stones /sand and mud. This then grinds away at the shock shaft as it moves - and it does ruin them.

Since the shock is protected by the seat stay, and it is pointing down, so any water / mud runs of it... I wouldn't bother with a protector - certainly not a neoprene one.

Some pictures from the woods finally..
Now I have this bike for 4 months, and till now I can say it's much more comfortable than my old hard tail bike.. x fusion shock and rear suspension works OK, but I can't compare it with some other shocks becouse this is my first full susp. bike..

used to have a merida trans mission, i think they are one of the best xc bikes you can buy, mine was sooo fast with a racy set up, was good in wales too, how do you find it?

before I was driveing hard tails only, so this is mine first full suspension bike and I'll never go back to hard tails again ;) ..

the suspension system works great, works when it has to work, doesn't work when it shouldn't .. there si really no need to lock rear shock in any condition, even on a street ride.. downhills and difficult uphills are much easyer now, more contact with the surface..

so the frame is very good, but the parts that came stock on bike was pretty bad .. suntour fork was more like the rigid fork :P , stroker ryde is far away from good brake when I compare it to the deore hidraulic that I had before, and rims are too "soft" .. in my plan I'll change brakes and wheels and then I'll be very satisfied..

trans mission has more rear travel then mission.. it should be 80mm but unfortunatelly I can't find that info on web, and merida refuses to answer on my questions about rear suspension.. they have really bad customer support..

I've got the exact same bike!!! :D But I bought it as a frame only (used). So I'm running a 2009 Revelation but still running the standard rear shock, Deore Hydro brakes, SLX cranks, a mix of Deore and XT transmission and an old syncros wheelset. The bike's great but I haven't seen anyone else with the same bike here in Malaysia...

    Here's a picture -

I still can't understand why I want a singlespeed steel hardtail when I already have a full-susser with 27 gears.

nice components on your mission ;) .. better wheels, fork and brakes than mine :D .. but give me some time

are u satisfied with fusion shock? I'm really pleased how well it works..

Do u know what is the travel of the rears suspension ?

Well, I don't really have much to compare the x-fusion shock to since this is my first full suspension bike. But it seems to be pretty smooth and I run it at only 40 psi since I'm only 55 kg. I still lock it out on long steep climbs but other than that it's fine for long, bumpy downhills but still firm enough when pedalling uphill. I can't find the geometry specs for the frame in the Merida archives. What's the maximum and minimum travel on your Recon fork?

    Cheers! :D

The minimum is 85mm and maximum is 130mm .. Axel to crown of the previus fork is like when I set the travel on 115mm ..

    Your frame is 16" ?

put some more pictures in here in separate topic, it's very nise bike with good components .. It's shame not to show it :D

    Geometry documentation
    http://www.meridabikes.it/dettaglioBici ... IDSubCat=1

The merida mission tfs 500 d ,from what i know, the maximum forck travel is 120mm.
You cant brake the frame , and is not very nice if you are on an donhill .
I have the same bike and i want to upgrade the rear shock with on that have lockout.
    Any sugestions?

new commuter/touring bike in my garage..KHS Flite 220,250 euros, off season deiscount..

when I bought it it looked like this
    http://lh5.ggpht.com/_mIdoGTo-zaU/TLxh4 ... G_1602.JPG

    after some changes

stock wheels replaced with novatec hubs + jalco d27 rims + no name spokes

2200 shifters replace with tiagra , rear 2200 derauliler with deore, deore cassete and chain..so now setup is 2x9 ..

this is low end road / commuter bike, one of the cheapest I think.. but in Croatia I can't choose some touring/commuter dedicated bike like jamis aurora, trek 520 or surly lht.. there is no cr-mo frames at all to buy, this was only option, so I replaced some parts from my old commuter and made the best of it..

@nvn - Bit of a random question, but was that pic taken in the Winterfold forest area in Surrey? Lol, I'm sure I recognize that tree!!

Nice bike btw, I had an epic, and that rode really well, so assuming geo etc is similar, I'm sure it rides really well :)

@bellys - looks like a big frame, what size is that?

@stav - haha, no it's taken in Croatia, never been in UK.. maybe it's some kind of twin tree :P

 I'm quite relieved that it's not the same tree actually, that would have been an all time win on the geek scale then!!

It does look scarily similar though...

I got an opportunity to test full suspension Ghost bike, model RT, from our local shop here in Croatia.

The bike is equipped with slx components, except wheels that have xt hubs, RS Reba 100mm, X-fusion 02RL rear shock.

    (+)
-bike is very good on uphils, easy to climb.. on downhills very good control
    -tires (rocket ron 2.25) superb
-slx brakes are great for xc rides, good power and modulation
-bike looks very great, I know that is subjective matter but..

    (-)
-rear suspension doesn't work imho very well, I was driveing on 35% sag becouse on 25% the suspension was very rigid.. even on 35% in wasn't smooth.. I know it is race bike, but this bike is worth a lot of money and I think they missed the design of suspension..

I don't have a lot of experience with full susp bikes, I've tried specialized epic and my merida lrs (have exactly same shock on it) and both bikes have much better rear suspension
