I have been using a little dry lube on my shifters but I'm wondering if there was something else more suitable?
Something light like gt85 maybe?

Dot 4 in the eye hurts. Trust me
  • Whenever a bike that im tuning at work feels like the cables are dragging a little bit, I use the Tri-Flow drip bottle right down the housing. shift or pull the brake a few times to move the oil around and you should be good. Like I said, tri-Flow dripper bottle.
  • I use dash renivator its super slippy and doesnt leave a tacky residue like wd40 etc.... that creates stiction. Use it on Mx bikes aswell its sweeeeet
    80 x 80 is not enough pixels!!!!

You can't beat Cable Magic IMO :D

After infuriating shifting problems last winter in the slop around the Downs, I bought a tiny bottle which I apply every few months to the cable-inners, and haven't suffered and shifting problems since :D

If i don't clean and lube my cables every other ride my shifts are rubbish.
Dry lube doesn't last for me but thought wet lube might collect too much muck.

cheers for the replies so far guys!
  • for cables your best bet is to get a couple of tea-light candles, remove the inner and pull it through the middle of two candles kinda like this:

    candle)cable(candle

then you've got a good lube that wont pickup junk.

For shifters, only dry lube in there or gt85 for just a little teflon slipperyness.

Your best bet if you are having to do regular tlc for them is to get some decent cables, either run a full outer with good end caps, or a sealed system for stops like flying snakes.

On my full cables i have jagwire caps, and at the mech ends i use the cap with the tube attached and one of the rubber tubes that keep the junk off. I'll try and do some pics before the weekend.
  • I coat the cables in Finish Line Wet lube (same as I use on the chain). My opinion is that its more important cleaning the cables more regularly then lubing them once in a while.
