Upgrade or new bike?

I currently ride a Mongoose Tyax Elite 2007 which I bought new and almost immediately II upgraded the not very good brakes to Avid BB7's (a huge improvement).
I originally got the bike not knowing how much I would get into MTB'ing, but it has done it's job - it's got me hooked, got me fit and helped me shed nearly 1.5 stone in 18 months (helped by a return to playing footie as well).
So we now have a regular group of riders and we are always seeking newer, tougher terrain. I've had a couple of rides on some other bikes - with full air suspension and they were nice to ride. Do I need to go FS? I don't know, I quite like my hard tail, but the way the FS bikes ride some of the real bone shaking stuff compared to mine is quite a difference.
Do I just upgrade the front fork to something decent (the standard fork is a suntour XC), or do I look at a new bike? I spoke to my boss and we can do the cycle2work scheme so that helps (or just means I spend more...), so I could look at a full sus bike for ~£1500.
I know it's a tough one - but anyone any thoughts?
