I bought a pair of these on Saturday, paid for them in the store etc. After I had paid for them the guy who sold me them asked which bike they were for. Its a Scott CR1. He told me they were unlikely to fit due to the small gap between the rear wheel and the wishbone that the brake attaches to.

Has anyone else had problems. I haven't had time to fit them, I dont want to open them up and try and force them on if everyone on here says dont do it.

If you can fit a 5mm allen key between tyre and brake bridge you can fit them...

Hi, Just fitted crud catcher to my Boardman Team Carbon,

I am a bit disapointed by the fit as they do rub on tyre behind the rear brake caliper and under the front forks due to minimal clearance

I am running 700/23 Michelin tyres that are quite large for 23's, The conti's are quite a bit narrower so would suit these better

I will see how i get on but i think i might have to put up with getting a wet arse and drowning everyone on the club run

    Has anyone any ideas?

I fitted them to Ribble Sportive which has next to no clearance under the brake calipers.

If you can't stop the rubbing at all after following the tips on the crud website then you could either try the narrower tyres (is it actually rubbing on the outside of the tyre though?), or as i did, take a hacksaw to about 5mm or so after the cable tie point. That way you can keep the spray off your arse, feet, legs and most of the frame. Should be able to eliminate the rubbing by doing that.

Also worth playing about with the tightness and position of the cable ties. For example, if i had my ties positioned in the 'groove' on the brake caliper then it would rub, but if i moved up up off of that and tightened it round the part that is attatched to the frame, then it stopped rubbing for me.

Sorry for the vague descriptions, but don't know what to call those bits! :D

My bikeshop tried fitting some to my Nero Corsa (when it was in for a service) and failed. At least I didn't pay for them though.

Someone posted a pic of an Addict with them on earlier so I'd have thought they'd fit.

  • I've fitted them to my condor leggaro, but had to chop the section in front of the caliper off, they still look good and function ok?

    Hi

Thanks for all of the advise

I have now removed part of the front mudguard that sits in front of the caliper and seems better

Where it was rubbing the most was directly under the front forks so i will have a play and see if i can remove some plastic to ease the rubbing

I think the most important part is the rear to stop the crap spaying up my back and into my friends eyes so at £20 a set there pretty good value for money

    Thanks again

That be me! - They fit fine and clearance appears to be ok. It's hard to say how good they are at the moment as I am yet to use them on the open road. It's been a long wait for a decent looking set of road guards so have high hopes for them!

I got the front one to fit my Team Carbon by drilling two new cable tie holes about 15mm to the rear of the original ones. The problem is where the two peices of mudguard join together, it's too thick to go under the brake calipers. by making the holes further back it pushes the thick part further forward just in front of the calipers. Still not a lot of clearance though.
  • Now have my Halfords CTW voucher - any views out there as to which Halfords to use for a Team Carbon in the Birmingham/West Midlands area? Have heard so much is dependant on the ability (or lack!!) of the staff that I want to make sure I go to the right one.

    Many thanks for any replies.

I used to work for Halfords and the stores really do vary in what kind of service you will get. I would firstly recommend going to a dedicated Boardman store that has the right people in place to deal with your purchase.

From memory store 857 in Shirley would be a good bet as is it a Boardman store and is one of the bigger shops so it's more than likely to have a specialist that can help.

    Hope that may help!

Hi just to let you know I have fitted these to my Scott CR1 . The only modification needed was to cut the rear mudguard as per the instructions shown on there website video. They now fit perfectly with no rubbing at all. Overall i am very impressed with the fit.
