Wheel problem - advice needed.

Hi, have a 2009 BeOne Storm (got it in September as a Christmas present so only been on it to check fit and a short up-and-down the street) with a wheel problem. They are Alex rims and the problem is this... there is a small ridge on each side of the wheel at the join/weld point which is catching on the brake blocks as it passes them - it is loud enough to hear with no traffic. Don't know if it affects the rear wheels as can't hear anything but it is annoying and is likely to wear out the brake blocks and affect the stopping power.
Would it be a good idea to very gently file the ridges smooth? Has anyone had a problem like this, and if so, how was it resolved?
The retailer (CRC) has been very good and is willing to change the wheels, however it is likely to be after Christmas.
Any help and advice gratefully received.

Adjust your brakes to give a bit more clearance or as you ride the bike and use the brakes the pads will wear and give more clearance as a matter of course.
  • Thanks for that - I wasn't clear enough though - sorry. The problem only happens when I use the brakes.[/img]

    it happens with some rims.

    it will go.

  • It sometimes helps to rub down the ridge with a fine whetstone or even wet and dry fine emery cloth. This does save the brake blocks some wear.
  • That's great advice. Thanks very much. G.
