Allen key insert in an adaptor fitted to a breaker bar/ratchet.

Sure you're turning the right direction?

I've used a seat tube to bodge extra leverage to an allen key before now without problems.

Machine Mart sell a nice big 1/2 inch torque wrench for around £15. It's a terrible torque wrench but makes a good ratcheting breaker bar, comes with a 3/8ths stepdown. Then, you can pick up a suitable allen "socket", ie an allen key for a socket set, and it'll shift- with a long enough lever and a good place to stand, anything'll shift ;) Also handy for extracting stubborn BBs.

Course, you don't need to spend that much, a decent quality allen key + any sort of pipe to extend it will work. But don't try this with cheap rubbish as it's fairly likely to damage the head.

  • CB pedals are rubbish, just toss them and any crank they've been in.
