Are manners a thing of the past?

I use eBay. A lot. I have been doing almost since it started.
If got some great bargains and I've sold a load of old sh!t that no one in their right minds would buy. I've sold a motorbike and two cars through eBay and I even bought my current car through eBay!
I don't know how many of you are familiar with the way eBay works, but when each transaction is complete, the two parties can leave feedback for each other. Depending on whether it went well or not and if the goods were up to scratch, people paid on time and how quickly you received your megatabulous bargain, you can leave positive, neutral or negative feedback. The idea is that othe potential trading partners can see how trustworthy/what a w@nker you are.
Now here's the rub. Unless I've been seriously stiffed, either as a buyer or a seller, I ALWAYS leave positive feedback immediately the transaction is completed (either I've been paid or received my goods), but lately (say within the last six months) the number of people who haven't left feedback for me has rocketed.
Now I know I have a massive ego, but I don't need it massaging. I'm not begging for recognition, but surely its just good manners to respond and say thank you. Or am I asking too much? Anybody else experienced this lack of manners?

I don't leave feedback anymore. I'm still awaiting feedback from people I bought stuff from over a year ago.
Ebay is going down the shitter for private sellers IMO.0 -
i hate when as a buyer, you pay for an item imediately but dont get imediate feedback to say what a god buyer you are, as a buyer, by paying for your stuff you have done your part so deserve the recognition straight away.
i only leave positive feedback or none at all. i especially like when my stuff is dispatched quickly.0 -

I'd definitely agree with that. When I'm selling I always email people to let them know I've posted stuff. Just makes the whole transaction that bit more personal and doesn't really take any time. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I only leave positive feedback too, you'd seriously have to p!ss me off to make me go out of my way to leave an 'in-yer-face' message and I'd probably be going through arbitration then anyway. It makes the Ebay world go round does the feedback system, I pretty much do it there and then on receipt of goods but there are occasions I forget, but you get a reminder anyway, so it gets done. There's only one person I deliberately didn't leave feedback for.0

Ive bought many things from ebay and left feedback when ive received the item ... Only have 1 bit of feedback though !
One seller sent me an very offensive email after i left him feedback for having very bad communication (None at all ! Emailed him a few times about the item before hand .. No reply .. Emailed him after buying the item about postage details etc ... No reply. He then procedded to tell me he would "Show my mother bad communication"
Childish :roll:0 -
I dealt with a seller once and they delivered completely the wrong item and the communication was quite slow regarding the mess up, so I left negative feedback for them (I was young and impatient) and they basically left terrible feedback for me in response. They then sent mails suggesting a mutual retraction of the feedback, which IMO is essentially black mail  I tend to rarely leave feedback now
eBay should force feedback from sellers before the buyers feedback to avoid this, but they have done nothing to rectify it thus far.0 -
I'm glad it isn't just me.
I've jsut sold a Canon printer which I know the buyer has received because he had a problem getting it to work. I sent him an e-mail on Monday to get him going, since when I've heard nothing. The ungrateful bastard.
And from one extreme to the other - I've just got positive feedback for something I didn't buy... :shock:0 -

No, it was a flash unit for a camera - I bought it then the seller suddenly announced that he'd sent it to the wrong person and couldn't retrieve it. To be fair he did give me my money back straight away but I can't understand why he'd leave the feedback for me...0 -
To be honest, I normally forget to rate folks on eBay, not through spite, but just out of, partly my ineptness on eBay, partly through laziness. I just added feedback for 2 sellers just now.
Hope you're happy now dave_hill!!!
As for 'manners'... I don't think it's a lack of manners to rate sellers / buyers. But maybe it's arse-hole-ish if you negatively rate them for no real reason.
Theres idiots EVERYWHERE, just ignore 'em matey...Boo-yah mofo
Sick to the power of rad
Fix it 'till it's broke0 -
I only buy (never sell) new stuff and it works a treat - can check feedback (unlike most on-line stores) and they always post very quickly.
Hence me buying far too much on the damn website!!0 -
think lack of manners is just a sign of the times, unfortunatly.
i try and make a habit of being polite, but if its not returned they can f%ck offif it ain't rainin.....it ain't trainin
Stick your 'rules' up your a%se0 -
Split my bike over the last couple of weeks, most of it went on ebay. Still waiting for feedback on 5 items out of 8 over a week after posting.
Never left negativefeedback, only left neutral feedback once, and that was with the guy who sold me my bars. Kept me waiting 3 weeks without answering any emails. Only when I got Ebay involved for a dispute did he actually send out the item.
Still, it arrived as described and was a reasonable price, so I didnt think negative feeback was warranted really.0 -
i am the sort of person who would rate stuff as more often than not i have nout better to do with my life.0
