Scott Addict frameset - Worthy of purchase?

I may consider upgrading to a new frameset.
I currently have a Felt F4 2008 which rides really nicely and much more comfortable on longer distances than my BMC Team Machine did.
I have since upgraded my F4 with quality wheels/drivetrain and stem/bars seatpost (which won't fit the Addict)/saddle and so I can transfer these onto the new frameset.
The wheels I have are American Classic 350 sprints and fairly light.
The bike would be used for most types of riding so comfort is as important as speed.
Any Addict owners out there to share their thoughts?
Cheers
Steve

Addict is an out and out race bike, i think you'll find it a bit severe for your demands, perhaps the CR1 which is supposed to be more comfy and only has a 70g weight penalty.
However, for that money there has to be something a bit more exotic than a scott!0 -
Since buying the Felt I have lost weight and so I can handle a less comfy bike no problem.
The BMC was a very harsh ride so I'm thinking if I can live with that then I can live with another bike that rides harsh.
There are other nice machines out there such as Look and the Tarmac SL but I have to stick to my budget you see. Around £1200 max!
I also think going from Fulcrum 1's on the BMC to my American Classics will give a little more comfort.
I like bikes that are light and zippy.
The Storck Scenario 0.9 is nice but outta my price range.0 -
have you spoken to your local scott dealer? If you're buying a frameset off them they'll probably do the parts swap for free, and they'll let you try a built up addict to see if you get on with it?0

Thats the next step indeed.
There is a couple of dealers close by.
I'm not sure they do the framesets alone ( I know Evans Cycles won't).
It'd be well worth popping along to try one out.
Westbrook cycles have offers on them at the moment...and very attractive prices, so I think I'd order from them unless the LBS's can tempt me with some kind of offer.

meh
framesets i'd buy locally, in case it needs to go back post crash. In fact i buy practically everything at the lbs as the prices are better (for me) most of the time, it's pretty quick. If i have an urgent purchase then i'll crc it.
The beauty is, if you go the lbs route, they'll probably toss in frame facing and reaming, as well as a new cable set.0 -
I prefer to use the LBS too......so I think a visit and a chat will be on the cards in the next few weeks.
It's also down to availability though and sometimes mail order or buying from the Non-LBS is the only way.
The frameset I want is the 2008 Addict SL.
It's within my budget.0 -
You need to be speaking to Paul @ Westbrook Cycles. I have got a Addict R1 & cannot praise it enough. When it turned up I was blown away by it's weight (lack of).
I used mine all last summer & found it comfy for all day rides of over 100 miles. It is a race machine but don't let that put you off. Mines a 56cm & compared to my previous bike ( Focus Cayo Expert) it's a much better ride on all respects. They ride with a "quality" feel??? Hard to explain but a tangible difference was felt when I jumped from the Focus.0 -
Westbrook have 2008 SL's @ £1099, only got 52 & 54cm left.0

The Addict is a fantastic frame, I couldn't choose between that and the CR1 but eventually went for the CR1 as it was slightly more comfortable and I have back problems but if you think you can cope with that go for it. As for the comment about there being more exotic frames out there - yes, there may be but I doubt there are many that are technically superior.0

Thanks Pross.
Got to sell my MR2 Turbo before I can help budget for the frameset.0 -
Tale of caution, I have snapped 2 Addict SL's both inbetween the BB and the front mech hanger, there were no crashes involved.
I then did a deal with Scott and moved to a 2009 CR1 Pro, which cracked on the BB after 6 months, it was replaced again by Scott after some wranging so I sold it and got a Cannondale whioch I love.
Ok I am a bigish lad but neither the Addict nor the CR1 have rider weight limits and I am not pushing out the power of the pro's.
The Addict is an all out race machine, it's very light weight which also means it's pretty brittle as well.
That said, before it snapped it was amazing going up hills.Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -

This does not inspire me with confidence! Just bought an Addict :?0
