Talk to me about tubeless

Hi
I have a trek fuel ex 8. It came with the bonty rhythm comp wheels which are apparently tubeless ready.
Am thinking I might get some UST tyres and try them out. Has anyone had any issues doing this with these particular wheels?
Also, am I right in thinking I only need some tyre sealant plus rim tape containing a valve to do this? or am I missing something.
Any help greatly appreciated. J

don't have Bonty rims my self but from what I've read in the past: Yes you just need the Bonty rim strip, sealant and tyre.
I've got an XT wheel set and have used Specialised 2bliss and Maxxis UST tyres. Both sealed fine first time but the Spec's were easier to put on.0 -
Wouldn't bother personally. I got a set of XT wheels last year, as they were tubeless ready I thought I'd give it a go. I've gone back to tubes on one wheel, will do the other one sometime soon. Couldn't see any advantage, only disadvantages when I wanted to swap tyres. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I got them because they were a great price at the time and just happened to be tubeless as a bonus.
I normally run soft pressures anyway and seem to get away without getting pinch flats, so tubeless didn't help there. but now I don't need to fix punctures any more. the area I ride in is covered in thorns and im always fixing punctures from them.
i imagine if my local riding spot was different and without thorns I wouldn't notice any difference?0 -

I think you're right. Tubeless can useful if you pinch flat although a similar hit to the wheel can result in the tyre burping off the rim. I would imagine if you ride farmland with hedges a lot thorn punctures can be a real pain. Even then though I was out with a group recently, loads of people got thorn punctures and the sealent in at least one of the tyres didn't manage to plug the leak. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
