I'm putting a new seat post in and removing the old one, noticed there's quite a lot of grease on it.

What sort of grease should I put on the new one?

Is white lithium grease OK, or should I be using something else?

Cheers

If you're putting in a carbon one, then no grease.
  • What materials are you talking about, if its a carbon frame or carbon post then you should use something like Tacx carbon assembly paste rather than grease.

Many use grease but i don't know why as you end up with it slipping!

I just ended up using white lithium grease which I had in the shed. Apparently the grease stops it seizing in the frame over time due to galvanic corrosion

You could always take it out and give it good clean once in a while or use Tacx's Carbon Assembly paste which is great for Carbon parts but should also do the trick for Alu without making it slip.

Fortunately it's got ribs so slipping shouln't be an issue.
