Energy Shots

There is a new fad for little energy shot bottles. I had one in the US recently that was over 8000% of my RDA of vitamin B - "Five Hour Power". It certainly gave me a buzz. The UK equivalents seem to have pathetic RDA %s.

Anyone use them for cycling?

Tried them, found them horrible, sticking to jelly babies.

i have only tried the Orange Quick Energy product http://quickenergy.co.uk/.

it tasted.....erm not nice...like iron supplements....

i did not honestly notice much effect that a cup of coffee and a big handlful of vitamins doesn't normally do.

They all have rubbish RDAs over here - 200% etc, in the States its 8000+%.

Torq energy the flavourless kind because after hours of sucking down energy drinks I get sick of the sweetness when all I want is a refreshing drink, with the added benefit of no taste or stickiness, plus you can always add your own flavour.

I did find in the summer that I needed less and less energy drinks as my fitness improved and switched to water for anything less than 40 miles, of course I always start a long ride with a good breakfast and two buckets of fresh coffee so that might help

I used to use Squeezys instead for sportives.

Tbh, for shorter bursts (like racing and sprint tris), I found Red Bull to be much more effective.

Some vitamins are toxic in large quantities, including B3, B6 and B9!

I favour the Tom Boonen energy powder for a quick pick me up.

Not cheap though, and hard to use on the bike.

Could it be that our RDA's are much higher here in the UK than in the US?

That paints a great image of someone riding no handed with a straw and a piece of foil.
