I took my alloy cranks off the other day and struggled to believe how heavy they were! Just think of how many times you're spinning them round every ride. If I spent a bit of cash, I could decrease my crank weight by ~450%..
450%?! I'm hoping that's a typo, otherwise what are your cranks made of? Antimatter? I hope they never come into contact with another crankset...
Freaking awesome!

One of the problems with carbon cranks is you need to get the pedal thread into them, so they do this by using metal bonded into the carbon arm, which is a source of weakness. Far better to just forge them from aluminium which is I think how Shimano make theirs.
+1 Nothing like ONE solid piece. Simple, strong, .....0 -
I don`t think Centaur is `lower end stuff` IMHO it`s good decent value for money kit from the best component manufacturer....the only reason I`ve got a Record Carbon UT Compact is because on my best bike when I specced Chorus the 10 speed Chorus Compact was no longer available so I got a Record upgrade (at Chorus price )0

It's somewhat "lower end" when compared to Record. I was simply saying that if you
compare Record / Super Record, DA, Sram Red cranks that you won't find that any issues involving stiffness that mean any one of them is BETTER than another(carbon or alloy).0 -
What cranks are you riding Bhima ? My alloy DA ones are pretty darn light.0

Weight is everything, isn't it?
Someone even went as far as having one testicle removed and then he became a formidable climber...left the forum March 20230 -
