Some crackers on there this year as always http://www.darwinawards.com/ but does anyone know if / when they have a poll for the best?

Particularly like the Polish lad who opted to get his arm ripped off by a lion to avoid National Service but he could at least put some more effort in and make the ultimate sacrifice as he has left himself in the gene pool. :lol:

    I thought this one the most appropriate for the forum:

    That's a scary one - I've been towed like that before now after puncturing in the neutralised zone (albeit I hadn't been drinking and to the best of my knowledge neither had the driver!) :shock:
  • Is it just me or some of these not funny at all :?

    In fact reading through, they all seem to end in death, their actions maybe stupid but not really funny IMO

    Thats the point of the darwin award, it's given to those who do the species a favour by removing themselves from the gene pool.
    "I hold it true, what'er befall;
    I feel it, when I sorrow most;
    'Tis better to have loved and lost;
    Than never to have loved at all."

    Oh i thought it was just to point out stupid actions. Ah well, still not that funny, least not for the people they left behind. We've all done stupid things but i feel it's a bit tasteless to make light of someones death no matter what the circumstances.....

    How ould you feel if it were your brother or someone close to you who made a mistake whilst a bit p1ssed up then you saw it(and maybe them) spattered all over the net?

    *serious mode off*

    Granted though, what a bunch of muppets. :arrow:

    These two quadbikers deserve an entry into the Darwin Awards IMHO:

    ...I do feel sorry for the train driver & those that had to clear up after them, but their own self induced removal from the gene pool can only be a good thing overall.

    Sounds like they took the name of the shop they'd just burglerised* too literally: Go Outdoors.

    I heard something on Sky News the other day about some guy in the Ukraine who dipped his chewing gum in some explosive and blew his face off. He should probably make the awards for 2009.

    That's considered normal behaviour in the Ukraine.

    I loved the "Lie Detector" with the colander and photocopier, can't stop chuckling about it.

    And now for my Isadora Duncan impersonation.
  • Some credit due to the Knievels, I think - carrying the urge to remove their genes from the gene pool across 2 generations.

    Some late contenders in my snow-covered village - man towing his friends and teenage sons (3 at a time) behind his 4x4 on sledges. Not really slowing down for the conditions, sledges going right into the other lane on corners (including blind bends).

    They did the same thing in February when it snowed. It's a good job that everyone else around here slows down when it snows, otherwise they'd be bound to end up eating car bumper sooner or later. :roll:

    If he had teenage sons how could he qualify for the Darwin Awards as surely he has passsed his genes on - his sons are a clue :? ? Or are the DA criteria not that strictly enforced or is this not a requirement - to have not proceated :? ?

    Its not him thats going to get killed though as he is driving. Its his teenage sons whose eligibility isnt given but I hope the chances are high. For them not having passed on their genes yet I mean.

    I don't know - looking at them I can't really imagine that lot having an idea between them.
