Hi,

I am new to this area done some exploring and found telegraph route / yogurt pots but cannot find the trails like Barry knows Best, Reservoir Dogs etc...

Does anybody have a map that they have annotated with the location of these routes? or maybe next time i am up in the area if I can tag along with a group that know the area well?

Cheers

    Hi mate,

Have a look at this thread:

    http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12649310

Theres a few people on there that meet up.. could be a good place to start! I'm over there a lot too usually, but my fitness is lacking at the moment, so I've not been over that way for month or 2 now.. still, soon enough!

Also, as for maps/guides etc.. if you get to Peaslake, go to pedal&spoke (the new-ish bike shop there), they have maps, and are usually happy to show you where all of the well-known trails are!

    Hope that helps, enjoy!
  • Cheers mate, I checked their website so location should be easy to find from Holmbury Hill and will pickup a map / get advice etc...

I try and get up there at least once a month

Hi, i go up ther quite a lot, as it's only a half hour drive from my house. BKB is certainly the best rail there - i went over yesterday and bkb is now awesome. It has been recently renovated as the end was very rutted, and now has massive switchback berms down to the bottom. To get to the start of bkb, go down radnor road from the carpark towards peaslake. bkb is on the left, when you have the reservoir on the right and 2 paths on the left. Of those two paths bkb is the small one towards the left - not the fire road. radnor road is also useful for getting back to the top of bkb.
    i hope that's useful
  • a better way to get back to the top of BKB than Radnor Road is to push (or ride if you really must) up the bridleway which slopes up from the new finish point, then turn right up another easy bridleway at the top.

There used to be a trail called reservoir dogs on Holmbury, near the top, but it got trashed and exists no more. Reservoir dogs is now another name for BKB. Surfa Rosa covers similar ground to the old Reservoir Dogs, but is currently unrideably muddy.

You can get a good laminated map from Nirvana Cycles in Westcott.

Yoghurt Pots goes from near the summit of Holmbury - it even has a sign, right off the main north-south path about 200 yards from the top. It and BKB are the only rideable trails in current conditions, in my opinion.

We rode reservoir dogs/surfa rosa or whatever you call it, rollercoaster/yoghourt pots, bkb and most of the trails on pitch and it was rideable- some bits were quite moist but we were fine even my friends who had v brakes

Much quicker to ride up. I passed several pushers on the way back up on Saturday :D
