Riding Suggestions Derbyshire - Yorkshire

I will be coming home to the UK for 3 weeks around Christmas and am looking for suggestions of places for a couple of rides (general trail/XC stuff). Trail Centres are appealing as I will need to rent/borrow a bike and I'll have limited time so I'm looking for short rides. I'll be staying near Matlock in Derbyshire. Any suggestions?

Hire a bike and ride in the Peak District.

Why go to crappy trail centres when you have the country's best riding on your doorstep.

Gotta agree there, Ladybower VC has bike hire but I'm not sure what the bikes are like...

They're really basic and the hire place only let you ride around the reservoirs on tarmac/metalled paths.

Any suggestions of where I can hire a decent bike and good routes for a 2 or 3 hour ride? I've been living in Sydney for the last 6 years and only started mountain biking since I got here which explains why I'm so clueless on places to ride in the UK.

plenty of places to hire bikes, normally tho they are not great things to ride. If your over Matlock way then you could go to Prsley Hay an hire a bike and do some of the tissington / high peak trail which isn't the most exciting ride but will get you out. Do a search and see whats available around hope/castleton but I think most places won't let you rag there bikes

18bikes in hope do a sort of hire..... Not sure how much it is, but its a deposit you get back if you buy a bike from them...
