Cables under the BB. What lube?

I've had a few problems with shifting at the front after a wet ride. Part of my problem is the slightly odd cable guide that came with my frame, so I'm getting something a bit more straightforward from my lbs. I've used a grease previously (Finish line I think) as I thought that may repel the water a bit longer than an oil. It did seem to help a bit.0

make sure the area is clean, then smear some vaseline over the whole area - but in reality there's nothing much to go wrong down there, so I wouldn't worry too much...0

I only use a light lube like GT85 on the BB cable guide, and then only to dry it and flush the crap out. Grease on exposed areas turns into a grinding paste with all the grit thrown up and is best avoided.0

that's fair comment Joe - but there isn't really much 'grinding' going on under there and I only really do it to keep the water off....0

I just put a massive blob of grease over the whole thing and clean it off / replace periodically. Any dirt adheres to the outside of the blob, so no grinding going on, and I can't see it so it isn't visually disturbing.0
