What road frame to take Shimano Alfine Hub gear?

I'm trying to build the perfect training / commuting bike.

I've got a shimano Alfine Hub built into a Mavic Open Pro. I've got drop bars and a Jtek bar-end shifter. I've got long reach caliper brakes.

I want a bike with full-length mudguards.

The spacing of the rear triangle needs to be 130 or 135 to take the Alfine.

Any suggestions?

Pompino comes close but I really don't want cantilever brakes.

Many thanks

Martin

  • I built one up using a Salsa Casseroll:

cotic roadrat is pretty versatile and as soon as my cyclescheme voucher drops on my door mat then it's going towards one of these

should see me through a few crappy winters hopefully.
  • Have you asked Planet-X if the Uncle John Cross frame would fit an Alfine hub gear?

Brake wise, I believe the rear can take a disc, but the standard fork cannot.

Send them an e-mail. They market the UJC as quite a versitile bike for all sorts of setups, could fit the bill nicely.

  • Probably more money than you want to spend but I believe Rohloff hubs are 135mm OLN so any rohloff frame should work. Van Nicolas are doing some interesting titanium frames now for Rohloff like the Amazon and Pioneer with eccentric bottom brackets to get chain tension correct. Or there is the fixed Yukon but I'd bet it is 120mm OLN :o(

Or you could a frame custom made by Enigma / Sunday etc for Ti or Bob jackson etc etc for steel.

Have you seen the STI lever for hub gears from sussex componants (Taiwan)? The sideways brand linked above has it fitted.
