Sure this is a quick one for someone knowledgeable:

I have a Lappierre X-Control with Fox RL front forks (in case the fittings vary)

Currently the bike has Shimano XT brakes with 160mm rotors. For the first time this weekend I did some heavier riding wihich involved a lot of tricky downhill sections (requiring me to hold the brakes on a lot) I was wondering just how easy it is to upgrade the brakes to 180 or 203 rotors to make life a bit easier (much lighter pressure on the lever I hope).

Cheers

Steve

just buy the discs and adaptors as required.

  • Can you point me in the direction of the correct adapters?

That was the bit I was worried about.

  • Any good online retailer. CRC for example.

The only thing to note is what type of mount are your forks? They will be either IS (international standard) or Postmount. Postmount is easy to spot - on the fork you'll have 2 posts sticking out that the bolt screws directly into, if not it's IS. Buy that fitting for the correct size of rota and you're done.

if going for a 203mm rota check the max limit on your fork, but 180 will be fine 203 is OTT IMO unless full on DH bike...

    It'll be a post to post +20mm for your Lapierre as it's a 2008 bike/fork. Unless you're a big gent, 180mm should be sufficient.

    would that do it?

    I presume I would need 2 of them plus 2 180mm rotors.

I am 90KG with all of my kit on?

Sorry i didnt notice this post the first time I checked!

I'll tak a photo of both the mounts and post them up here just to get a 10% verdict, then I will order the stuff.

    Cheers for your time!
