Bib Shorts

Looking ahead to next season I'm looking to get some bib shorts. I've been using shorts this year-but as I've stepped up the distance I've noticed rubbing-even when using Assos cream...and yes, there was blood (where no man would ever want to see it!).

Seems the issue was the pad moving around-so what do people recommend for bib shorts? Do I go the DHB Finchdean route, or a pair of 09 team bibs on sale (I've seen Cervelo Test Team bibs for around £60)-or is it advisable to go the full hog and get Assos? Or are there other sugestions?

Having never worn bibs before I'm a bit reluctant to fork out hundreds-they're not the kind of things you can test before buying! At the same time if I'm going to end wanting the Assos I'd rather not have spent £60 before then having to dig deep intot he pockets.

Thoughts?

Bibs feel way comfier than shorts, you won't regret changing over. I went through many pairs of normal 'waist' shorts, that either slipped down or cut-in to my waist.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Santini bibs as very good quality kit, without the Assos price tag.Available at Prendas http://www.prendas.co.uk/default.asp

Personally, I wear Assos FI Mille S5 Bibshorts and Assos FI Uno S5 Bibshorts.
I do own a pair of DHB bibshorts, but not impressed (turbo wear only!).
IMHO, shorts are a very personal taste, those, like me, wearing Assos, will swear buy them. Others will pooh-pooh the prices, and recommend something else.
There are a lot of good quality bibshorts on the market, to choose from.

    Good luck.

  • I'd only go back to shorts to wear them under bib tights at this time of the year.
As for bib shorts, Assos do seem to be the best by general acclimation but I'm skint and a tightwad and get on very well wearing Lusso Pro-Gel
