I bought the Muvi from amazon for £54 + £15 for the sports package after seeing all the clips on this site - cant wait as should be here in next few days!!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veho-VCC-003-Mu ... /B0029631V

just went on amazon to get the link and its now cheaper!!
  • I plan on ordering the Muvi from Veho for Xmas.

Great reviews, metal case and only £50 from Vehos Ebay shop.

The sports mounting package and silicone cover can be had from around another £15 if you look around.

Go to 7mins to see the review.

Apart from a memory card do you need anything else with this camera or is it stand alone?
    Thanks

It's standalone. It comes with a cable to attach it to a PC, whereupon it's just seen as external storage and you can copy the video files off. The "sports pack" isn't much cop. Well, some of the bits are handy, but it's overpriced for what it is.

I think the cheaper version has a plastic body, rather than metal. But if it performs the same, it's great value.

nice to see that some of these cameras arnt as expensive as i thought
  • If you have a look at http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/ you can see a broad selection of sport cameras. They range from the MuVi up to the HQR2/HQ2 package.

As you would expect, you generally get what you pay for especially when it comes to waterproofing, low light performance and recording quality at speed. Low light performance really sorts out the men from the boys here.

That said - for bright light conditions, the MuVi is an excellent value introduction to bike cameras.

I use the HQR2/HQ2 recorder and camera (as does Downfader) and an example video (in YouTube grotty quality) is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev77gmLSZXw
  • Some extra info for you - if you want an in-depth practical review of the HQR2/HQ2 package, the guys at MuddyMoles have this review... http://www.muddymoles.org.uk/2009/07/do ... eview.html

I can't turn my ACT2k on after just 2 years (it still works with the USB, but not on batteries). Has yours been delivered yet ? What is the battery life like ?

  • I'm surprised no one has mentioned Vholdr or GoPro. Both just recently introduced HD helmet cams and there are reviews for them all over the web.

I prefer the Vholdr for a couple of reasons. Footage looks more stable, design is more sleek, and the Vholdr community is a cool place to share videos. you can check out sample footage there: http://www.vholdr.com/videolist
  • PS - i'm particularly fond of this one.... http://www.vholdr.com/node/37150

Sounds like quite a few of us will be opening the same things this year. And its a great excuse to get out of the house - away from the in-laws - to go and test the camera.

Isn't the driver only needed if you want to use it as a web cam? Your SD card should just appear as a storage device from which you can drag and drop the files. It worked like that for me anyway (with my MD80 that cost £7.81 :D )

One thing with the cheaper ones, I found that the supplied memory card caused dropped frames when recording. Changing it for a better quality one stopped that.

No idea why but I just bought one, ah well it's only £13 - anyone know how long you can record for on an 8GB card?
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

You'll have to consider battery life; the manual says 2 hours' life.

Anyway, from my testing, a short 30-second video is about 35 MBytes, and a 13-minute one (showing my first crash on my road bike... grrr snow) is just over 900 MBytes, so I guess just over 1 MByte/sec is a good rule of thumb.
Sounds like the right size card!
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.
