Have a chance of getting a defy advanced at a good price.Only problem is its a medium large and I am 5 foot 9 1/2 so I wonder is the bike a little to big.I know I can use a smallier stem but I dont really like that idea.
The giant web site recommends that you should be 5 foot 10, maybe I should pass the top tube length is 560mm a bit long perhaps. But I have seen the reviews and it is a giant so I know its a quality bike.

i reckon you have to have a quick spin on it at least...it must be costing a fair bit....I remember sitting on a Giant 'medium' when looking 6 m ago and it was fairly large compared to other 'mediums'.
I'm sure someone here will have the exact measurements for you

try it, if it helps i ride a small Defy 1 & i am 5'7'' but to get a good fit I fitted compact bars & swapped 100 stem for a 90.' From the sharks in the penthouse,
to the rats in the basement,
its not that far '0 -
I have a medium large defy advanced 2 and I'm bang on 6 foot. I did try the large and by fitting a shorter stem it may have been fine, but the ML felt spot on.
It does sound like the medium might be a better fit for you, but the ML comes with a 110mm stem so you could drop that by 1 or 2 cm if the TT was too long and/or swap out the stock bars for something shorter like the 3T Ergonova. If you can, try to test it or a regular alu Defy (they have exactly the same geometry), and hopefully then you'll know if it's right or not.0 -
Hi mate,
I have an M/ L Defy 2 and am about 5"10. I have a longer reach than height but found the 110mm stem too long when in the hoods and I was getting a sore back during and after rides. I changed to a 90mm Easton about a week ago and the difference unbelievable. I gone from liking the bike but not being very comfortable on it to loving the bike and feeling the set up is just about right for me now.
I would try out a M/L but also ask them to let you try it with a shorter stem as it made a huge difference to my set up.0 -
Thanks Glaslowboy sorry about the delay in getting back to you.I have a bike but in a freak accident the frame cracked.Luckerly the hoods chainsets wheels front mech and rear mech are perfect.
I was after a frame and happened to see someone selling this frame cheap. But it has no fork or seatpost or headset just the frame.I have priced a seatpost and a carbon fork and meybe I can use the headset on my old bike.
But I was worried than the frame might be to big.I am just under 5foot 10 so this option might be a good idea yet.My wheels are fulcrum 5 and hoods are dura ace front mech ultegra and rear mech dura ace.Even the chain is perfect.
Whats the defy like to ride I have found some reviews on the net and they are all fantastic.I might let this go til after Christmas as this frame has been on sale for a long time and hopefully it will not be sold. Thanks for the comments lots to think about.0 -
Oh I also have longer reach than height tomorrow I must visit a bike shop test out sizing. The bottom bracket has a press fit so I am not sure what to do about this.I have not seen the defy up close, but I am a big fan of giant bikes.0
