Gum wall tyres...?

Hi,

I'm looking for a set of gumwall (ie natural rubber) tyres for my current project ( http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12665322). All I can find at the moment are the Veloflex Paves but I'm also hearing bad things about their longevity and for the price they are I'd expect a decent life from them.

Ideally they need to be 700x23 and with a Kevlar bead.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks a lot....

Stan

Panaracer Pasela are amber wall. A grippy long lasting tyre. Not really a sports tyre.

I've got Paves on my 80's 753 Panasonic Raleigh, I rate them. Planet X were knocking them out at £23 each a while back.
  • In the defence of Veloflex tyres - they are really a racing tyre, so you wouldn't expect more than a season out of them

I've got some cheap Schwalbe tyres on my vintage/retro daily, they're 25mm steel bead though.

They're probably a bit cheap to be using on your bike (nice bike btw) so I'd go for the Pasela as people have said. They come up on ebay quite often.
  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input. I didn't mean to be negative about the Veloflex's, I appreciate they are a serious race tyre and therefore longevity is not there primary function but for what I need I think they may be overkill.

I had a look at the Panaracer Pasela's as well but they seem a bit too far the other way. Probably last for years but don't look particularly sporty. As this is my posing bike rather than my serious road bike they're not really what I'm after.

Think I might just bung a pair of Conti Ultra Sports on for now, see how much I end up using the bike and maybe upgrade to the Veloflex's next year...

    Thanks again...
