Any suggestions?

Fulcrum 5's is where my head is at, but they don't get the best reviews.

Stretch to the £250 EA90 SL from CRC. Unbeatable at that price.

  • riding - nothing TOO mad at the minute, sat morning run out for upto about 80-100k. Some commuting, few duathlons, I guess general purpose is what I am after.

If you can stretch your budget only a little bit then there are some great wheels from this guy.

Don't be intimidated about talking to a wheel builder, just state your budget and your needs and he'll do the rest for you. Muc better than buying factory wheels at this price point.

the Eastons as Gabriel said, are a gold-plated bargain

Merlin had the new 6700 Ultegra wheels up at £200 recently, which is also a stonking bargain. They've gone back up to 275 now but keep an eye on merlin for deals like this.

www.roadacecomponents.co.uk, Steve can hand build you a pair for that money.

You could consider a Rigida DP18 aero rim with maybe Ambrosio hubs. The DP18 is a good budget aero rim so will be tops for your racing. Strong for winter training. The Rigida Flyer rim has a similar profile to the Mavic CXP rims, may save a bit of weight opting for something like them? I've seen both at Steve's place, good for price.

Those rims look nice, something a little different but are Rigida as good quality as, say Mavic or DT Swiss?

These rims are even deeper! for MORE SPEED :D

As for factory wheels, Fulcrum 5's would be a good choice.

I'm also looking for wheels in your general price range. I'm currently considering -

Shimano Ultegra 6700 wheelset for £230 from Merlin Cycles

    and the

    Soul S 2.0 or Soul S 3.0 from bikesoul.com

I've also recently bought a set of Plant-X Model-B wheels for Mrs Harry's WIP road bike. For £125 for the set they're hard to beat for value for money.
