I have had a Schwinn Messa XC 60 bike for nearly 3 years and am very happy with it. I am not very knowledgeable on bikes and was wondering if you could help me.

Firstly, after the rear brakes (blocks) have been applied, one of the blocks catches the wheel at the same point on every turn as if the blocks won't go back to where they were. I have tried adjusting this with the allen key but it just turns and turns inside the nut as it it's worn away the metal. Now I can't undo it at all. I would have thought Schwinn would have used better metal for their screws.

The other thing is can I use normal 3 in one oil on the chain etc or would Teflon spray be better which I also have ? I have just hosed it down after a very muddy ride and will do this when dry.

I am also not sure what the plastic screws above the front forks are for. I have never touched these.

    sounds like poor tools.

    and get some chain lube,

Lots of How toos, Like setting up V brakes, or on Park tools, have a read.

    linky below.
