Trek Madone 5.0 vs. Wilier mortirolo

I'm trying to decide between a shortlist of 2 racers: the Trek Madone 5.0 (ultegra) and the Wilier Mortirolo (veloce) both of which are available second hand for £700
Both seem like nice carbon bikes at a good price. From what I've read they're both a bit heavy at around 18 lbs. Doesn't seem too heavy to me!
The Trek appears to have a good frame, but is let down by heavier bontrager components (handlebars, stem, seatpost). Similarly the Wilier has a good frame but comes with fairly low spec kit - although this one is equipped with veloce so doesn't seem too bad.
Anyway I would love some advice on which one is superior (feel free to use the poll) and anything I should look out for. Not sure of the years of either.

Thats an excellent price for a Trek Madone 5 series, what year model?
I would go with the madone and upgrade the heavier bonty stuff with lighter components.0 -
I had a trek madone 5.0 2007, silver/grey with ultegra and it was a great bike, i did upgrade the wheels and saddle and eventually i managed to get a bargain dura ace groupset from a friend as well.
On a club run i swapped from my madone and went on a friends boardman team carbon.. the £1500 boardman and my trek felt very similar, just a little better maybe.
I bought my madone from ebay for around £800 and it was worth every penny, great bike, just needs slightly better wheels... I got planet x model b wheels for £125 and they where far better than the bontrager race ones...0 -
The Madone's a 2007 model. I took it for a test ride last night 30 mins home and 30 back in to work this morning. Very nippy! Hopefully, testing the Montirolo this weekend.0

Beware people on here dont like trek or lance... Italian seems to be favoured, ride which you like best... They are both great bike's and i'm sure be very happy with either one (lance won the 2002 tour on the 5.0 frame)0
