On the back of another thread how much reporting and coverage do we need from the press ? I think some private things and sensitive issues need more privacy, like the little girl at her fathers funeral, is this being too intrusive ?

I think it is.
Some things are used to sell papers, some are used as ploitical leverage and public opinion swaying. But I do turn off the news now, especially ITN's "News Show", as it seems too salacious and quick to intervene.
What do you lot think ?

Generally, the press should go a long way.

    Off a very short pier.

Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved

  • IMHO

Private Individuals - Report the news nothing more.

Celebritites/Personalities who try to keep their private lives private - The media should do just that, take Tiger Woods, he doesn't go out of his way to get publicity, trys to keep his family life private, the media should respect that. I don't want to know if he's been having an affair, I won't buy the newspaper that has the "exclusive" and he damn sure shouldn't have to apologise to the public.

Media whores like Jordan/Britney Spears etc - Fair game.

The Daily Mail and Express are both newspapers which love to let their readers w**k themselves off over other people's misery. Check out the front pages and big screaming headlines next time there's a high profile child murder.

    Sickening.
  • I see footage of Marilyn Monroe smoking a joint was in the "news" :!: Crikey me she's been dead for about fifty bloody years. Does it matter/does anybody care, what next Lord Byron in gay sex shocker.

..i wish newspapers would have 2 sections..
    1. The Facts...
    2. Opinion/speculation

.......then I could use section 2 in my new woodburner

I have all but given up reading any other newspaper other than the Daily Telegraph. I want to read news, not gossip, not 'celebrity news' but actual news which could have some effect on my life.

I don't know who this 'Jordan' person is and personally I don't care. If that makes me out of touch then so be it.
