Do anyone know of a decent route westward out of London?
I'm currenty on site at BBC White city, and fancy cycling back to Reading on Friday evening rather than 'enjoying' the train from paddington.

I've had a quick look on google and OSM but there doesn't seem to be much heading directy west than the A4

I would also prefer to avoid taking the M4 as google suguests

Tell google you're walking, and it might come up with a better alternative. Beware that it will also send you the wrong way down one way streets.
  • I tried that but it just takes me along the A4 (great west rd & bath rd) past hethrow which looking at the satalite photos doesn't look very plesant, plus most of it looks like major dual carrageway which is never fun.

Looking at open cycle map there's a good section of the grand union cannal I could use, west of Ealing broadway that would get me as far as west Drayton anyone recomed it?
  • It's a bit indirect but I would go White City - Chiswick - Richmond - Twickenham - Hampton - Chertsey - Virginia Water - Ascot - Binfield - Woodley to avoid a lot of the big roads & traffic
