A totally OT, capitalist loving thread dedicated to the joys of consumerism and spoiling oneself/loved ones...

I've just bought 2 of these rather funk (IMO) Kartell 'Take' bedside lamps in green:

And 6 of these in green, again from Kartell:

Italian design, 'natch. Sadly Pinarello don't make furniture. :(

Sadly most stuff will have to come from Ikea for now as furniture is fecking ridiculously expensive in this country. I have a friend who used to be a buyer for one of the more upmarket home stores and the markup on this stuff would make your eyes bleed.

    Seriously??

It always amazes me that people want these 4x4 type cars, even more that a cyclist would want one. No offence meant but what is the reason for wanting it?

    Negatives:

    Unsafe for cyclists in collision.
Pollution ++ compared to similar sized normal car both from manufacture and running.

But hey free world, hope it works out for you.

I'd have gone for the Accord estate. Seriously nice car with ample room in the rear.

I hate it when you buy something and then everyone else tells you, you bought the wrong thing or that they would have gone for something else/better...

    Oh socio poilitico;
Well, it is a 2.2 Diesel and averages 40 mpg, better than my current BMW estate that manage about 25 mpg. I have 3 kids and a dog - when we go on holiday or to the in laws, we have the BMW completely full + a trailer - with the CRV we have more headroom to jam more stuff in a special cage that divides the boot space for the dog (near impossible to do this in the BMW) and more towing capacity, so, I can use a bigger trailer. I also have the capaciy to use it for towing the boat club traler laden with a few boats - cannot do this in BMW. I can also jam bikes on the back of the crv thanks to the side opening boot as opposed to putting bikes on the roof - this really eats fuel on the motorway when you have roof bars and bikes up there, better behind the vehicle on a rack.
And it is my wifes choice - my choice would have been a Range Rover - even better towing capacity, but she thought it was too big for her to drive sensibly.
So, in essence, it is more efficient than our current car and meets our practical needs as a large family vehicle - we could have bought an MPV, like a S-max - would have been the same kinda of efficiency and usefullnes, but did not have the towing capacity....and I am only 35 years old!

It amazes me that people still judge a small 4 x 4 in the same way they judge a range rover?! Yet a BMW M5 no one is interested in - an M5 saloon will barely do 15mpg and has one of the "dirtiest" engines about - 540HP v10. Yet a 2.2 diesel 140hp Honda engine gets it in the neck because it is fitted to a small 4 x 4 - the fact that it is one of the most efficient and cleanest diesels seems to be lost in the fact that it is fitted to a 4 x 4. I should have bought another Porsche 993 RSR, that would have pi**ed off the green crowd.....and annoyed me as it is useless to me!!

Why is it bad for cyclists?! Not that I have ever hit one! I can imagine a Range Rover, Discovery or X5 is bad, but not a little 4 x 4 - like being hit by an MPV.....

The CRV is allot less polluting than my current BMW 320i Estate and my previous Audi 2.8 estate and my previous Golf TDI (150). Also comes out better than it's direct competition and most of the resonably sized engined MPV's - 2.0 Diesel upwards. Need a bit of towing power.

    :-)

LiT's so sophisticated, even her chocolate fiend mates are a class above.

I've resorted to nicking the kids' chocs.

I've recently bought 4 Eurostar tickets and a weekend at Disneyland Paris (this weekend), a new stereo and some bed linen.

F*ck me my life's exciting. Mind you, had kids' Xmas play this morning, which resulted in much blubbing from Daddy...

It's just a hill. Get over it.
