    Hi,

    Garmin 705.
  • just a bit too expensive possibly
  • could try one of these
  • very funny lol - was looking to spend about £200-220
  • the 705 seems good but with the maps needing to be added its too expensive

My 205 was £45 new and it does me.

you get the maps for free off the internet if you don't mind a bit of digging around with torrents and keygens
  • if he's that keen he might already have one

and to find out what bike he has ( he only has one ??????), you could try looking at it, or maybe asking him

vouchers might be your best bet, i wouldn't like anyone else buying bike stuff for me. Or keep the receipt

If you don't fancy acquiring maps for the 705 illegally then there are free maps available (Open Street Map) which work in some areas (there isn't complete coverage for the whole of the UK, but it seems to be improving). Alternatively, somone else could buy him the maps?
    More problems but still living....
  • If he doesn;t have one already maybe a subscription to cycling plus?

I am interested in this - do you mean the car satnav? I have the Geko 201, locally available at £55 (Go Outdoors usually around £80), and it is wonderful. I trust it implicitly and it has got me out of many, many holes - but it does need digital mapping at home. I have often wondered if a car satnav can be adapted, waterproofing and power a problem but so much cheaper than a bike specific one
