Depends on which model you`re looking at. It doesn`t matter for Shimano stuff until you get to the new 10 speed stuff, I know the new Ultegra 6700 front set-up (and probably the DA 7900) has the sprockets mounted 1mm further apart, BUT I`m running an older model 9 speed double chainset with the new Ultegra 6700 front mech and shifters, and it works fine, so the 1mm doesn`t seem to matter, as long as you get the front mech adjusted correctly (high and low screws)
Same goes with rear mechs, they can be adjusted to work with 8, 9 and 10 speed in my experience, just a matter of high and low screw adjustment. It`s the shifters that dictate whether it`s 8, 9 or 10 speed due to amount of cable they "pull" at each shiftJens says "Shut up legs !! "
