I made an interesting discovery last night.

There's a section of canal path about 15 feet long that dips by 4 feet with slopes at each end. I never knew why until I got to it last night and observed thousands of gallons of dirty river water running very quickly across it to a large drain on the other side.

The water was a foot deep and no way around it - unsurprisingly I got very wet feet which in turn became numb feet.

Derbyshire and Cheshire county councils were obviously trying to be kind to me this morning, by not gritting the A6.
