Anybody have any experience of these?

I'm looking to buy one purely for the cake/cafe stop and obviously understand that this is no use nor ornament against a well equiped and determined thief, it's just to deter in some part an opportunist ..
caveat out of the way ...
The question is:
Does anybody know if the cable on this is plastic covered or will it chew up the frame like a cheese cutter?

Ive got a similar lock for my snowboard, From memory (as its up the attic) I dont think the cable is coated, but more like a brake or gear cable, obviously lot stronger.
Im sure it would do for a cake stop, but like you said, it will not deter a determined thief0 -
I think it would guard against someone wanting to sneakily wheel your bike away from outside the cafe, but that's about it - but I'd be happy to use it for that purpose, though I'd still keep the bike somewhere I could keep an eye on it.0

I have visions of the thing keeping my bike in place..only to find out the bike has been cut into two and I'm the now proud owner of 2 unicycles! :shock:0 -
I have a very similar one, but maybe an older design, as it is plain grey.
It's nice and light and small, so fine as you say if you are going to be nearby.
I would just put mine through the rear triangle to try and stop the rear wheel turning, or secure it to another bike I guess.
I suppose the cable 'could' do some damage, but I would hope the paint on most bikes is a bit more hardwearing that that.

I don't have the squire one but this Abus one: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/abu ... gn=froogle Got it for £16 at my lbs, the cable is plastic coated and the whole thing is light, compact and easy to use. You would still need to keep an eye on the bike but it certainly lets me sit outside many a country pub whilst partaking in summer refreshment.0
