MTB Overshoes for use with Flats and SPD's

Hi Guys

I use specialised Taho MTB shoes. Sometimes with SPD's and sometimes with Flats.

I am looking to get a pair of overshoes but was wondering if the V8 flats I have would just rip the underneath of any overshoes?

Can anyone recommend what they use for flats?

Many Thanks

I've heard good reviews of the Endura MT500s, available on CRC for £21.99 at the mo I believe.
  • any more for any more?

I use MT500's off-road but that's with SPD's, at best you'd have to cut much more of the sole off them to work with flats.

Just looked at my overshoes, I'd be worried about the pins on v8's damaging them to be honest. Just use SPD's when you use them maybe?

or maybe some SealSkinz Mid Thermal Merino Waterproof Socks?
  • I ride with the seal skins already but still found my toes quite cold (rest of feet warm).

I was also thinking of the overshoes as this would save me from having to dry and clean my shoes every time i go out as they were drenched.

Any other suggestions re the original post would be greatly appreciated

    Many Thanks

The soles will get damaged eventually but should last a while.

My mate uses Endura MT500s with V12s and seems to get on alright with them. My feet are quite big though and I don't think these come in a large enough size.

I had been using some Northwave ones on which the zip broke probably because I was stretching them too much, though the sole was relatively unharmed by use with my Wellgo V12 copies.

I've just ordered some of these: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Pro_N ... 360044932/ (they're a couple of quid cheaper from Merlin).

They are apparently designed for use with trainers etc rather than SPDs and I'm hoping the size XXXL will be big enough for my size 12s!
  • These are designed to work with MTB shoes. I use them on the commute every day:

  • Watching this thread with interest. Those 2 options kindly offered above look promising. Anyone tried them off road with any luck? Interested in getting some to try I think!

I have Tenn overshoes, cheap enough to replace if they break :)

  • Hi Guys

    thanks for the replies.

I have gone for a pair of Endura MT500 overshoes from Evans (got them to price match £19.99 that I found on the Internet) - Result.

For that money, even if they do only last me one winter ill be a warm dry and happy.

    Many Thanks

The ones from tenn , are they an open sole design ?
The BBB ones from CRC look good but for some reason they are out of stock of every type for some reason which looks a but suspicious

The Pro ones I linked to above arrived the other day.

XXXL was only barely big enough for my size 12 trainers, but they do seem to be very well made. Not had proper rain yet but they are certainly fine in showers and very warm. Too early to comment on the durability but they have less material round the bottom than the Endura MT500s so probably less likely to get damaged by flat pedals.

im goin without overshoes for the moment
  • Thanks for the photo bob - I'm torn between them and the ones posted from prendas - what is the fastening at the bottom where they join tjwood? Wondering if it's velcro if it will hold during a muddy ride?! Any feedback/pics would be great :)

They look pretty much like those ones though the printing is slightly different on mine.

Yes it's velcro at the bottom. Haven't got them very muddy yet but it seems to hold just fine.
  • Cheers for that tjwood - when you do get an opportunity to get them nice and muddy please leave some more feedback - for the time being they are added to my wishlist :D

has any one had any expirance with these,
    http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/mtb-cs-10210840/ ?
any updates on how the new overshoes are going ??
  • That looks a good find bamba, Be interested to know if anyone has had any experience with them. Also if you could give us an update tjwood that would be great! :)
  • i currently have 3 pairs of overshoes but find that they get worn pretty fast
the soles wear out fast, the zips break easily and the endura ones have velcro fastener strap at the top of the zip which is not stitched on but glued on, these fall off the first time they are tumbled dried-cant remember but dont think they come with washing instructions.
over shoes are good but on long rides in very cold wet weather your feet will still "freeze" but i,m sure that it will be alot worse if you were to ride without them
