General question regarding pressure build up in ears...

Bit of a general one rather than cycle specific but here goes;
Last december i broke my petrous temporal bone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrous_po ... poral_bone) in an unrelated incident. It has been explained by my doctor that the bone does not heal like a normal fracture, whereby rather than a stronger piece of bone re-joining it, it gets repaired by a softer tissue.
Anyway, ever since this happened whenever i do intense exercise i get a buildup of pressure in my ear, to the point where i can feel the ear drum moving back and forth as a breathe. It's not a particularly nice feeling as obviously it blocks out some of my hearing which also can affect balance etc
I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this or similar, and if there's anything i can do to prevent/relieve the symptoms? And yes, i know the obvious answer is go to the doctor but my specialist is in Cambridge whereas i live in Birmingham.
