Why (in general) are flat bars so much shorter that riser bars?!
There are a few super wide flat DH bars out there but apart from that they're pretty thin!
Weird?

I suppose flats are more XC orientated arent they so narrow bars probably save a bit of weight and offer other benefits to XC?0

I had a wee laugh at MBUK this month, they described a 680mm bar as narrow Last year 680mm was the new 660mm and 660mm was narrow...Uncompromising extremist0

To me narrow is less than 23 inches lol. (590mm)0

Riser bars are generally used for DH and the like for a more "sat up" position on the bike where you would benefit from more control.
Flat bars give you a lower position over the front wheel for a more concentrated pedaling/racing feel.
It's a generalisation I know but that is the basisNot really active0 -
Seems to be turning back a bit now - with high front ends from big forkssome are running flats on DH bikes.
But risers are in fashion - I have seen a 'zero riser' riser bar haha!0 -
How can you have a "zero riser" riser bar?! surely that defeats the point.......
Who markets that?0 -
I shall try and find it! It might have been a bad description from a retailer, but was on a site recently!0

I think my shoulders are that wide0 -
Lol. I run 620mm bars - I find narrower gives me more control, but that is just me. too wide and my arms play outwards and elbows straighten - plus have to move the bar further to turn.0

Think mine are 705mm. Going down to 680/685 for the P7 though.
I remember when I had my GT, going from that to my NS was like going from a Mini Cooper into a Transit Van... sooooo much more room, but possible a bit too much for every day lol!0 -
680 on my inbred, the 456 has 650 or 660 bars as it has gears so i don't need to hump it as much.0

Just upped mine to 710 from 685's, notice a slight difference when hitting the downhills, feels nicer, bit more stable but we'll see how it goes.0

I'm still running 630mm, the missus has my old Kona shred and that's got about 680, it's too wide for me, I'm always concious I'm going to smack a tree with them and it feels like I'm steering a bus the steering is so slow. Probably just not the bars though.0
