I normally ride downhill, but this winter i'm going to try out a new training strategy - XC.
What do you think about XC as 'winter exercise' for downhill?

Positives/negatives (XC as downhill training)?

Some positives i could think of:
You get very fit!
The less travel makes you better seen from a technical point of view.
Easier on your joints.

Some negatives:
You may lose som of your dh-techniques? - such as jumping etc.?
(easy learned again though.)

Thank you. 8)

  • Generally i subscribe to the 'you get good at what you do' mentality. However, given the state of the trails at the moment around me, you wont really push yourself doing DH. Perhaps add some longish xc rides to improve your fitness. The main thing is simply to ride as fast as you can for as long as you can!
  • yea, I know what you're talking about, Denmark where i live is Very flat...
= Not much DH challange, but quite alot more on a hardtail xc rig! (another reason)

(In the summer i drive with friends to som mountains in sweden which is less then 2hours away for DH - but in the wintertime the area becomes a skiarea instead.)

Anyone know if any of the top-dh-guys use XC for training in the off-season?
