Look guys. Instead of posting on here about which wheel I should buy blah, blah blah

Just ring Derek at www.wheelsmith.co.uk - he'll build you what you need, within your budget.

That way the forum doesn't get clogged up with "What wheel" posts, and then leaves more room for the "What Lights" posts and "What bike to work/£1k" bike posts

Aye, that's all very well, but which shoe/pedal combination goes best with Derek's wheels??

  • Seriously - I've used factory builts, and they are good. However, as is the case with me this year, when they go wrong you're buggered.

I had four spokes ripped in two on my front Zonda by an errant pedal at the Otley crits this year. Trying to get replacement spokes was a nightmare - in fact my LBS ended up straightening some normal plain gauge spokes just to get the thing back on the road. I'm now having to look at getting the front wheel re-built with a new hub and normal spokes, as the whole wheelset is still in very good nick.

Who needs a forum? looks like the dereck helpline will replace it!
People want opinions from as many people as possible before parting with their hard earned cash so yes ring everyones mate dereck but your still going on someones advice so listen to a few others and then you can make your own mind up!
The beauty of this forum is its a pool of loads of peoples veiws.
That way when you do buy some new shiny bling wheels it wont matter who they came from as you bought them based on a decision made by YOU and will therefore be well happy with them and not wonder if you bought the right wheels based on what dereck (S)(T)old you on the phone!
If people are so fed up with what wheels questions put a what wheels sticky up!

On the bright side i would welcome a definitive answer on 'what lights' those guys need help
Carbon is a mans best freind
  • Fook me - my original post was 'tongue in cheek'

Also A_N_T - my Zonda's are older than 08, and at the time I was told you had to buy a bulk load of spokes.

And I'm going to do 'the math' - £20 for some factory spokes versus less than a pound for a normal spoke. Mmmmmmmm

Good Post. This is a forum and not a search engine. I've asked about wheels before and I searched google and searched on this forum.

I couldn't find what I was looking for so I asked a question. I'm a beginner to road cycling so I find the various posts and questions that other people ask very useful.

    Cheers

Well, you can also try Steve at www.roadacecomponents.co.uk.

The guy has built wheels for over 30 years. Been comissioned to build wheels for companies and riders. He rode pursuit for Great Britain, held countless records for timetrialling and knows which wheels are best for the job.

I will look nowhere else for my wheels and TT advice.

There you go, another plug, I'm sure there are many others people will add to this thread.

    Go for it!

I've never bought any bike-related things off the internet :P

Not that I'd be averse to doing so with things like small accessories and clothing. Wheels, bikes and frames etc are another matter.
