I thought low speed wind tunnels were fairly rare? And also, isn't wind tunnel testing old hat and it's all about power meters on a velodrome now?

Velodromes aren't proper cycling though, are they?

No - They're novelty events at best.

But they are handy for tweaking aerodynamics.

A lot of riders use low speed wind tunnels. There was a tunnel featured in procycling some months back. The bikes were mounted on a turntable that allowed the scientists to see the effect of crosswinds on the rider.

The Columbia team used the Honda/Brawn wind tunnel in Brackley to optimise their TT positions for the TdF Team Time Trial earlier in the year. So it's not unprecedented for Pro Tour teams to use F1 team's wind tunnel facilities.
