I was going downhill yesterday at 30mph+ when I got a bad puncture. It was a bit hairy but stopped safely. Luckily within 5 mins of home, so walked the bike home.

This morning I decided to fix the puncture and removed and replaced the tyre with my new crank bros speed lever which I was quite happy with. Just as I was replacing the last bit of the tyre one of the spokes came loose and the little nipple thing went inside the rim of the wheel.

Now what do I do?

1) how do I get the nipple out of the rim?
2) how do I fix the broken spoke?

I re-inflated the tyre and have noticed a big gash in the side rim of the tyre which the tube is squeezing out of.

Am I looking at a new wheel scenario or is this fixable?

It's a real PITA/fiddly job, but you can get the nipple out of the rim by blocking it when pens and using tweezers.

As for the wheel/spoke, can you buy a new spoke?
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."
  • I think this might be a job for the bike shop.

Been meaning to try these guys out for a while now, they just do servicing and are just around the corner and are apparently brilliant:
