Kona AA 1x9 WIP

Just bought (not recieved yet, but soon) a 1994 Kona AA frame to add to the retro kona collection. This one is Aluminium, so a bit different. I am going to build it up 1 x 9, with mainly modern parts. I haven't got most of the bits yet... only the frame, a crossmax front wheel i got off the 'bay, tyres, stem forks and frame.

Hahanna, Fire Mountain, Lava Dome, CinderCone, Caldera, AA, Kilauea, Kula and Hot.

Only 5 to go...

yeah. i don't think i'll ever get the whole set! even if i want to. Would love an 08/09 Kona Kula deluxe/supreme though.

Got the AA frame today, along with the Chainset, which is a RaceFace Evolve with 1 ring and a Bash, Forks are clean (Rock shox Psylo XCs)!

I fitted the chainset and a Rapid Rise XT Mech I had kicking about. Found a Deore Cassette. I've got a Mavic CrossMax front wheel on the way.

Accidentally ordered 2 sets of grips (shit memory!), one pink set of superstars and one set of white Spanks. Both very nice, but I think i'll go with the Spanks, as have also ordered a white headset, and i'll see what I can do for a white saddle and pedals too!

FSA bars also ordered from chain reaction and a ONOFF stem off some guy on ebay, not something i have heard of, but it was cheap, the right size and you've gotta give these things a go sometimes. Also having some Conti Speed Kings off ebay.

I'll post pics soon, hopefully Sun or Mon, but don't hold your breath (as if you would...)

Fitted raceface evolve dh chainset, rs pyslos, deore shifters and levers, raceface seatpost, planet x-uranus saddle, fsa bars, onoff stem and pink superstar grips















got an old (but excellent condition crossmax wheel off ebay, don't know if i'm going to use it yet though:

yeah, i was sort of going with a white theme there for a minute, but then i didn't it looks ok though.

the last pic is a rock sweet sent in my latest parcek from CRC, which had the tubes, shifter and a sunline v2 headset for my caldera in it!

yeah it dosn't look bad at all.

i see now. they are trying to do the same as wiggle(they gave out haribos) and now crc are making cuctom made sweets

yeah, i'm used to the old haribo from wiggle. CRC sweets are nicer though!

bike progress has stalled awaiting wheels, which are going to be goldtech disc hubs on d531s

Without sounding 'cliquey' - it is worth as much as much as anyone is willing to pay for it, place an advert - along with a suitably sized photograph in the classifieds and see what offers you get. By the looks of the kits you've got on that - it seems pretty retro! Take a look at www.retrobike.co.uk for more ideas to see it's worth.
