I've just got a pair of the above, more to keep my knees warm than anything, but I'll use them for snowboarding too.
The packaging says the hard bits can be removed for easy cleaning, HOW?

I just checked the packaging on my Patriots and it says the same, I cant for the life in me see how it's supposed to slide out though.
Anyone able to shed some light on this?0 -
i didnt even know mine could be taken apart but as mentioned, i dont see how it can be done.

Dammit!
I demand satisfaction!0 -
I demand compensation.
My life has been irrevocably changed due to the miss selling of my knee pads.
I'm talking a minimum 6 figure sum here!0 -
Absolutely!
I have been extremely inconvenienced by this fact that I admit I was completely unaware of until you just brought it to my attention today.0 -
It's true, it just doesn't matter, you can wash the pads with the hard part fitted anyway.Uncompromising extremist0

Yep, bung em in the washing machine, must've washed mine half a dozen times now and no ill effects. Dry surprisingly quickly as well.
My packaging has long since gone ( in more ways than one :? )It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
great pads
bad packaging.
How do people wash theirs? Isn't there a chance the plastic might deform? I've been hand washing mine since now...Not really active0 -
40 degrees in with the rest of my riding gear, seems fine. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I saw the "removable shell" thing too, and was a bit confused. They're removable with scissors I guess....
And to answer to the original post, they're very comfy, and very good at keeping knees warm. To be honest the "hard" plastic is flexible enough that you could walk round in them all day with no problem.0 -
I mailed the 661 distributors about this, they told me that it was a mistake on the packaging (I think it was copy/pasted from the Tomcat pads’ packaging), and that the whole knee pad is ok to wash.Meta and two veg0

Avoid softener on stuff like pads though0 -

Why, it's not like it'll soften the padsIt's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I was after some advice on these pads. I have bought two pairs from CRC while they were on offer,\one\large and one medium. I bought the large based on the sizing guide and measuring my calf and thigh and they seemed to fall in the large band. I got the medium as a test as I couldn't believe my thighs were "large". Tried one on each leg now around the house and the large is more comfy but everyon who has them of a similar build to me has medium. The suggestion is they will give a bot and the tubi-grip bit will loosen. Anyone any experience of this. If I keep the large one, I don't want them to end up around my ankles. Quick repsonse please as return deadline for one pair is looming!!!0

i measured up for a size large, but when trying on in the shop the medium, although slightly tighter was the better fit, Ive been out twice now with the pads, one local loop for 2 hours and a full day at Afan, Im happy that i bought the medium, I find they do give a little when youve warmed up, But I do find them pretty comfy from when they first go on.
As said above they are really comfy pads, all day riding is not a problem, had them on for 6 hours on sunday and no rubbing or soreness at all,
So if like me, the large is really comfy when first on then this means they will be a little to loose and probably fall down when riding but if the meduim is snug but not uncomfortable, then go for the medium,
Good luck

Thanks for the advice here....erring on the medium now based on this. Its difficult to assess when I'm watching telly in them, the medium feels to be cutting the circulation off to my legs but I suppose the elastic allows a bit of give!0

What the hell are you watching that you need to wear body protection?
