Hi.
Anyone running a 1x9 gear set up? If so are you running a guide/tensioner to prevent throwing the chain at the front. I've never done it before. If you have a sucessful system would be cool to know.

most people dont run a tensioner on with a single ring on the front but a guide of some type.
there are many out there."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

ok, cool. can anyone suggest one they have found to be good. i'm not asking too much of it as its only a hardtail, and It may end up being 1 x 8 or even 1 x 7 at this rate.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0

If you're in that much of a pickle you can use an old front mech with the stops set.
Other than that it all depends on how much you want to spend. I've always found Truvativ Boxguides to be quite good.Less gears, more beers.0 -
i'm not in a pickle! i don't even have the frame yet, just scoping things out. cheers for the info though, i'll check it out.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0

When the front chain was jumping on my 1x9 I used an old front mech locked off using the low and high stops, hoping to do without now I have a proper SS front chainwheel.

Or the Pauls components chain keeper if you can't mount it behind the bottom bracket. Attaches to the seat tube like a front mech but a tiny piece of gorgeous CNC work.
