Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men
  • If you still have some, and haven't been swamped by emails, then I'd be grateful.

What is Google Wave, apart from a fancy search engine?
Do not write below this line. Office use only.
  • What is Google Wave, apart from a fancy search engine?
At its simplest it is a communication/collaboration tool. Although developed by a famous search engine, it isn't really a search. I suppose it is like a mixture of email, messaging, BBS, blogging.

    Somewhere to find out more
  • I was sent an invitation a couple of days ago - I've since been trying to figure out when I'd use it, and perhaps more importantly, who I'd use it with. I'm still hesitating. I suppose it's one of those things that won't be really useful until uptake reaches a critical mass.

If you have one spare, I'd love an invite :) I have a few Spotify invites if you want one?
    FCN Daily commute = 11
    FCN Fixie commute = 5
  • Could I have an invite please and a if someone has a spare Spotify invite I would be obliged.

    Many thanks

    Andy
  • Ok, I've signed up and can give a further 8 invitations. What's the best way of doing this: send your email address to me by PM and then let the thread know when I'm all invited out? From the text below, it doesn't look like the invitation comes too quickly.
Google Wave is more fun when you have others to wave with, so please nominate people you would like to add. Keep in mind that this is a preview so it could be a bit rocky at times.

Invitations will not be sent immediately. We have a lot of stamps to lick.

    Happy waving!
  • Thanks DM

    Up and running :D

Ok - I have PM'd the fastest responders.
  • Yes please if anyone has an invite left - been trying to get onto Wave to see if it will work for networking within school...

PM me and I'll set up an invitation - I've got 5 left.
  • Bump...I've now got 3 invitations left if there are any above who didn't get RossMu's or my invitation.

When I'm out of invitations, I'll try and get some of the new wavers to put their invitations to good use.
  • I've got some invites now but some are needed for some other sheet.

Maybe we should start a cycling wave?

Maybe we should start a cycling wave?

As an experiment, I set up a very small route using the google map gadget, and other wavers were able to change the route. It takes a while to get used to but it might prove very useful for planning routes and RDV times and seeing who's going to turn up. There's no specialised cycling map application but once the route is done, you could copy it to your normal mapping program and then upload the maps and profiles from there. I think :?

The main problem would be sharing email addresses in the beginning, I'd imagine.

  • Still got some invites, well 5, (assuming they are still there when I log back in) if anyone wants one. Drop me a PM, but my office's 'festive season' do tonight, so you may not get an instant response

okay peeps so what are you all now doing with your google waves?

Played around for a bit but it's all gone very quiet here - not so much as a ping.
  • Still very quiet on the wavery front but google have just issued a 2nd tranche of invitations if anybody is interested in having a look. (I got 8 invitations when I first registered about a week ago, and 17 more today.) PM me with your email address if you're curious - I'll get the invitation out to you.

(googlewave might prove pretty useful in relatively closed networks - such as educational establishments or even clubs. But that's just my personal first impression and others may think differently.)

We talked about it at work and concluded that it could be useful for developers but in all honestly what company is going to allow their commercial code to be uploaded to google?

Our security & compliance people would have kittens.
