1. Exposed myself to a postman.

2. Finally got the dead loom out of the landy

3. Nearly broke my nose removing a brake caliper bolt on the mondeo

4. Replaced the rear pads and discs on the mondeo (An absolute pig of a job)

I'd say today has been well balanced.

Letterbox? No, when I opened the door the knob was in my hand.

i have done number 2 and 4 before and dont envy anyone having to do either so both on the same day is quite some achievement i would say!

did you use the 'special tool' for number 4 or just undo the bleed nipple and press like funk with a big spanner?

I made a special tool, in so far as I clamped an adjustable spanner to a very large flat head screwdriver, pushed and turned. It does in fact take some considerable force (Whilst twisting in the correct direction) to get the damned thing back in. No need to open the bleed nipple, just take the cap off the reservoir.

Removing the loom was easyish compared to the impending job of putting the new one in. Oh, and then when that's in, there's still the chassis and engine looms to replace. Yay.

i doubt there are many worse mechanical jobs than changing the clutch packs and steering brakes on a d6 dozer.

I see your nightmare, and I raise you a full change of suspension on an leaf sprung landy, with a full chassis bush change.

obviously you've never rebuilt an air con pump or a diesel fuel pump thems is fiddley and annoying

never an air con pump but have rebuilt injectors and pumps for diesel engines, i didnt mind those as they are bench jobs and accessible. (+1 for extremely fiddly though)

i have changed entire axles inc coil sprung sus on landrovers before and have done a few bushes on a few motors but only normally 4 at a time iirc. however, the caviat is that i did these tasks with a full pro workshop faciliy designed for the task and not on axle stands in the driveway (although axle stands were used in my workshop of course)

the caterpillar d6 was done outdoors in a dusty yard in the kenyan sunshine, i still maintain its the hardest mechanical job i have done and was even a trying and testing job for the massively experienced kenyan guys i was working with.

I'll see your landy suspension and raise you a heater matrix on an Espace and a handbrake cable on an Alfasud!! 8)

Next time either of you need to do the rear brakes on a Mondeo again give me a shout as I have the rewind kit. Hardest job then is usually getting the old disks off with a lump hammer.

Rewinding the calipers is a bit of a pain with just a screwdriver!

The passenger side rear disc just fell off. I got a bit of a surprise when I had to beat the living daylights out of the drivers side disc with a lump hammer to get it moving.

This is most probably the first and last time I'll change the brake pads/discs on my mondeo, as I don't intend to keep it past 2010.
